About NHL Word Search

NHL Word Search is RosterSpin's free daily hockey word search. Every day brings a new hockey theme — a franchise, an era, a roster or a piece of hockey culture — and a grid of letters hiding that day's answers. Press START PUZZLE to reveal the board, then connect adjacent letters to uncover each hidden hockey answer, including the gold Featured Answer. Your first attempt each day is timed and ranked on the daily leaderboard, and no account is required to play.

How to play

  • The grid stays hidden until you press START PUZZLE. The timer begins at that moment and runs on our server, so refreshing won't reset it.
  • Drag through adjacent letters — horizontally, vertically or diagonally, and the path may bend — to trace an answer, or tap letters one at a time and double-tap the last letter to submit.
  • Correct answers stay highlighted in blue; the Featured Answer turns gold.
  • Each puzzle has one Featured Answer: a special hockey answer tied to the theme.
  • There is no guess limit or penalty, and every letter on the board belongs to an answer — fill the grid to finish.
  • Your first attempt of the day is the ranked one. Replays are welcome and can be timed for practice, but they never change your leaderboard result.

A new hockey word puzzle is published daily and everyone gets the same board that day. Anonymous players get a lighthearted hockey-themed leaderboard name that can be changed before starting; signed-in players use their RosterSpin display name.

What is NHL Word Search?
NHL Word Search is a free daily hockey word search from RosterSpin. Each day's puzzle has a hockey theme, and you find the hidden hockey answers by connecting adjacent letters across the grid.
How is it different from a normal word search?
Answers are not limited to straight lines. A word can bend in any direction — up, down, sideways or diagonally — as long as each letter touches the letter before it.
What is the Featured Answer?
Every puzzle has one Featured Answer. It may be a notable player, team, nickname or phrase tied to that day's theme. It is a special answer rather than one that has to span the whole grid, and it turns gold when you find it.
When does the timer start?
The grid stays hidden until you press START PUZZLE. The timer starts at that moment and runs on our server, so refreshing the page will not reset it.
How does the daily leaderboard work?
Your first attempt of the day is the one that is ranked. You can replay the puzzle as many times as you like afterwards, but replay times never change your leaderboard result.
Do I need an account to play?
No. Anyone can play and appear on the daily leaderboard. Anonymous players are given a lighthearted hockey-themed name that can be changed before starting, and signing in uses your RosterSpin display name instead.
How often is there a new puzzle?
A new hockey word search is published every day, and everyone playing that day gets the same board.
