How the odds work

Every remaining game is treated as a toss-up, with overtime and shootout points included. We play out the remaining schedule 20,000 times and rank each simulated season with the NHL's tiebreakers.

The odds reflect current standings and the remaining schedule under those assumptions, not an assessment of roster talent, injuries, trades or goalie changes. A percentage is an estimate; clinched and eliminated labels are used only when the NHL standings confirm them.

FAQ

How are these NHL playoff odds calculated?

We play out the rest of the 2026–27 regular season 20,000 times. Every remaining game is treated as a toss-up, with overtime and shootout points included. Each simulated season is then ranked with the NHL's tiebreakers to find the 16 playoff teams.

Do the odds account for overtime and shootouts?

Yes. A share of simulated games goes past regulation, based on how often that happened over the last three seasons, and the losing team in those games earns one point.

When were these odds last updated?

The data was checked Oct 11, 2026, 7:05 PM MDT, when we captured the completed results and confirmed they match the official NHL standings. It is not the time you loaded the page or when the simulation finished.

Is a high percentage the same as clinching?

No. A percentage is an estimate from simulated seasons. A team has only clinched or been eliminated when the NHL standings confirm it mathematically; we show those labels only for verified results.

Do the odds consider injuries, trades or goalies?

No. The odds reflect current standings and the remaining schedule under the toss-up assumption, not roster talent, injuries, trades or goalie changes.

Which team has the best playoff odds right now?

The Edmonton Oilers lead at 66% with 9 points from 5 games.
